Next iPhone 4 Software Update "Won't Fix Proximity Senor Issue"

We all know the iPhone 4 suffers from antennagate, but let's not forget another major problem with the new device - its proximity sensor.

Put the phone to your face to talk, and the screen fails to blank triggering keypad bleeps and even the phone's speaker being switched on by mistake.

Apple has acknowledged the problem and has promised a fix.  And when the beta version of the next software update, iOS 4.1, was released to testers, there were reports that it went some way to sorting the issue.

But now Apple's Australia spokeswoman, Fiona Martin, has been quoted saying the fix is still a work-in-progress and won't be included in the final release of iOS4.1.

I find the proximity sensor issue more of a problem than death-grip.  Let's hope it doesn't take Apple much longer to get it fixed.
