You can now send and receive SMS and MMS messages on an iPad.
There are a few prerequisites: the iPad must be jailbroken, it must be a 3G enabled device and you must make sure the SIM you're using is activated for text and multi-media messaging.
If you tick all those boxes, you can download SwirlyMessage for the iPad from the Cydia App Store for $12.
SwirlyMessage for the iPhone has been out for some time...in fact it's been downloaded more than three-million times.
According to iClarified, the iPad version has been completely rewritten to make full use of the iPad's bigger screen.
I must admit, I haven't used SwirlyMessage for the iPad because mine isn't jailbroken. But it would be interesting to hear how well it works.
There were some problems with the app on the iPhone initially, because it was found it was incompatible with some carrier networks.
But using your iPad for text messages seems like a neat idea.
