Reports of Widespread iTunes PayPal Fraud Scam

There are widespread reports of a fraud scam hitting iTunes account holders who use PayPal as a payment method.

At the moment, it's unclear how the scam is working, but it appears to be a security breach in iTunes.

Account holders are finding they've been hacked and have run up big bills for iTunes downloads with payments taken from their PayPal account.

It first came to light when readers contacted the TechCrunch website. A simple search of twitter and Facebook posts reveals dozens of other people complaining of the same fraud.

It seems it's only affecting iTunes accounts linked to PayPal accounts.

PayPal are directing all media inquiries to Apple who say:

"If your credit card of iTunes password is stolen and used on iTunes we recommend that you contact your financial institution and inquire about cancelling the card and/or issuing a chargeback for any unauthorised transactions.
"We also recommend that you change your iTunes account password immediately."

Neither Apple not PayPal will comment on the scale of the scam.
