Blackberry Tablet Could Be Launched Next Week

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Blackberry phone manufacturer, Research In Motion, will formally announce a rival to Apple's iPad next week.

It's widely expected to be a 7" tablet device and it's already been dubbed the BlackPad.

But, according to the WSJ, the big surprise is the device won't have its own 3G mobile network connection. It'll come with wifi, but will have to be used with a Blackberry mobile phone to connect to mobile cellular networks.

If this is true, it's going to be a fairly niche device and probably no real threat to Apple.

The other major contender for the iPad crown is, of course, the Samsung Galaxy Tab, another 7" device that's due to be released and on the market next month.

The downer with the Samsung could be its cost. It seems it will be priced well above the iPad.

Is Apple going to keep its grip on the tablet market by default?
