iPhone iOS4.1 Software Update on Wednesday September 8

The new iOS4.1 software update for iPhones will be released next Wednesday, September 8, according to the Apple UK website.

Steve Jobs has promised that the upgrade will fix several flaws in the current software, including the iPhone 4 proximity sensor problem. At the moment, putting the phone to your ear in a call can trigger keypresses because the keypad fails to disable.

Other features of iOS4.1 are Apple's community Games Centre and HDR photo-taking, which promises better quality pictures.

TV show video rental should be added, as well as HD video uploading via WiFi.

It will also include a new way of measuring phone signal strength, but it won't fix the antennagate problem - that's hardware.

If Apple follows its previous software release timetable, iOS4.1 should be available through iTunes from fairly soon after 6pm UK time.
