Twitter Gets A Facelift

Twitter is embarking on a major overhaul of its twitter.com website - the first revamp since it started four years ago.

The new design will roll out to its 160-million users over the next couple of weeks.

Instead of a single column of tweets, the new site will  show two sections - or panes, as Twitter likes to call them.  The left pane will show a list of tweets and the right pane will show details of the tweet you click on, including embedded photos and video.

In the past, if a tweet included any multimedia, you had to go to a different site to view it.  But now Twitter has signed deals with more than a dozen providers, including Facebook and Flickr.  So media-rich content will be viewable in your right pane.

The advertising industry loves the move....embedded pictures and video in ad tweets....mmmmmm!
