Geohot Releases Limerai1n Jailbreak

iOS hacker Geohot has released his Limera1n jailbreak for all iOS devices including the iPad, all iPhones and all iPod Touches.

It comes just 12 hours before the iPhone Dev Team was due to release its jailbreak, Greenpois0n, which would only work on newer devices like the iPhone 4, iPad and new generation iPod Touches.

Minutes after releasing the jailbreak, Geohot pulled the download link from his limera1n.com website and substituted it with "download link under discussion".  But the link soon reappeared. In fact, Geohot is regularly releasing new versions ofLimera1n to iron out bugs.

Now the Dev Team has delayed the release of Greenpois0n. It's known that team members are furious with Geohot for jumping the gun but they now want to impliment the Limera1n exploit in Greenpois0n to keep their own exploit for future use. Here's a statement from the Dev Team:

Thanks to the irresponsible antics of geohot, we will have to delay the release of greenpois0n (new ETA = as soon as possible), so that we have time to clean up his little mess and integrate the exploit he uses in limera1n into greenpois0n. This way, we can save SHAtter for future devices that may still be vulnerable to it.
We know that this is not what some people want to hear, but due to geohot needing to feed his ego (as usual) and revealing his limera1n exploit, we do not have any other responsible options.
Anyway, here's the link to download the latest Limera1n.

The usual warnings apply: this is beta and could bugger up your device...and remember there's still no network unlock for the latest iPhone operating system iOS4.1.
