Even Apple fans were hoping the soon-to-be-released Samsung Galaxy Tab would give the iPad a run for its money.
It's got a good touchscreen, runs the latest Android operating system, has wifi and 3G, two cameras for video calls....and it's a phone as well.
Most agree its success will depend on its price.
Well, Pocket-Lint has confirmed that the Dixons stores group, which also includes Currys and PC World, will be selling the 32GB tablet for £600. Or to be precise £599.99.
The similarly-speced iPad goes for £529. OK, the iPad doesn't have a camera and it isn't a giant phone. But it is Apple and it has thousands of apps waiting for you to download.
It's a pity, but it looks like the Samsung has priced itself out of the market. And, to be honest, it's the nearest anyone's seen to an iPad-killer.
Let the Apple bandwagon roll on......
