Apple have launched a free Find My iPhone service. It was part of the subscription MobileMe service, but has now been made available to everyone with the release of iOS4.2.1
If your phone is lost or stolen, it should help get it back.
By everyone, I mean (not everyone!) it will only work with the iPhone 4, the iPad and the latest iPod Touch.
Basically, you enable it on your device, you can then go to the Apple website and locate your missing phone on an on-line map, send a message to display on your phone's screen or wipe all your data from the device.
