Apple Releases iOS4.2.1 Update For iPhone iPad and iPod Touch

iOS4.2.1 has eventually landed. It's live and ready to update your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch.  The new Operating System brings loads of new features to your device.

If you’re new to updating the Operating System software on your iDevice, here’s what to do:

1. Open iTunes and connect your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch.
2. When your device is connected, sync it. That means you’ll have a back-up of everything on your device including apps, settings, music, video, pictures – the whole lot.
3. On the iTunes “Summary” page, click “Check for Update”. Then click OK on any other pop-up boxes that appear.
4. You can go and have a coffee or something now while your device’s s software is updated. It can take about 10 minutes or longer.
5. DON’T DISCONNECT YOUR DEVICE WHILE THIS IS HAPPENING.
6. Eventually, iTunes will tell you your device is rebooting and reconnecting to iTunes.
7. iTunes will give you the option of setting your device up as a new one, or restoring it to a backup.  If you want all your apps, settings etc put back on your device, choose restore from a backup.
8. Let the device restore...again this can take some time depending on how much stuff you have on your device.
9. That’s it. Start playing with the new features.

Don't forget, if you have a jailbroken device, you will loose the jailbreak if you update. Better to wait for a confirmed new jailbreak.  Same applies if your device is network unlocked...wait for the all-clear.
