Apple has sent out final the test version of the new operating system to developers and it could hit iTunes for general release any time now. For some reason, I'm banking on next Tuesday, November 9. But I could be wrong and I'm not putting money on it.

If your a jailbreaker, the good news is a jailbreak should be released fairly soon after iOS4.2 is up and running.
The only problem is the Cydia app, which is installed with a jailbreak, may not be ready quite in time. So that may delay it by a few days.
You're now being warned to save your SHSH Blobs...this is your device identifier code needed for some forms of jailbreaking. If you haven't already, open Cydia and hit the "make my life easier" button. If your blobs are already saved on Cydia, you'll be told that at the top of the Cydia homepage.
Another way to save your SHSH Blobs is to use TinyUmbrella, which you can download from here for Windows, Mac and Linux. This will save your blobs on Cydia and on your computer.
Saving your blobs might not be necessary. But it might just save you the trouble of having to live with what's called a tethered jailbreak. That means you would have to re-jailbreak every time you switched your device off and on again.
If you also want to unlock your phone to work with another mobile network, the news is also good. Hackers believe they have an unlock for iOS4.2 running on 3G and 3GS devices....but you may have to wait a bit if you've got an iPhone 4 with the latest baseband.
I'll keep you up to date with iOS4.2 developments as they happen. Follow me on Twitter for alerts.
