Branson Confirms Virgin Plans An iPad Mag

Richard Branson has confirmed that his Virgin company is planning a new magazine specially for the iPad.

He says it will be launched in New York next week.

Not many details are known, but he describes the mag as a paperless "revolutionary multimedia" publication.

It's thought it will concentrate on lifestyle and design and in charge of the project is Riki B's daughter, Holly.

It comes as another multi-national, News Corp, is hiring staff for an iPad-only newspaper. "The Daily" will be based in New York and it's thought it will concentrate on news and current affairs.

These major initiatives by two large companies seem to guarantee the runaway success of the iPad will continue running away.

Analysts expect iPad sales to reach knocking on 40-million by the end of next year.

It's known that News Corp boss Rupert Murdoch has won Apple's backing for his iPad newspaper, with a joint launch announcement expected next month. It's thought Apple will now change its rules on subscriptions, allowing customers to sign up for regular payments inside apps.

Pricing of the Virgin mag isn't known, but it's believed The Daily will cost 62p/99c a week.
