The highly-successful Bump iPhone app has been updated with an instant message facility.
Now you can message friends anywhere - even if they're not close enough to bump phones with.
The Bump app keeps its core functions of letting you share contacts, photos, music, location and calendar events simply by bumping your phone with the phone of someone who also has the app installed. It includes integration with Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
The messaging feature lets you send instant messages to anyone you've "bumped" or added as a friend.
What's new in version 2.3:
+ Send messages to friends who aren't near you by adding them as a friend inside of Bump -- it's kind of like a long-distance "virtual bump".
+ Fast app switching / backgrounding
+ Messages now stored for offline viewing
Bump is free in the Apple App Store.
