BBC iPlayer App "Set To Launch In February"

It's reported the long-awaited BBC iPlayer app is set to launch in February.

It was first announced nearly a year ago and was given the go-ahead by the BBC Trust six months ago.

There's already an iPad-friendly web version of iPlayer, the BBC's catch-up radio and TV service, but it's thought the app - certainly for the iPad and probably for the iPhone as well - will add many more functions. It'll be free in the UK, although BBC is also planning a worldwide subscription version.

It's reported that the app will be released before BBC Future Media and Technology Director, Erik Huggers, leaves the job to join Intel at the end of February.

At the moment, nothing has been said about launching an Android version.
