Financial Times Threatens Apple Over Subscriptions

Financial Times publisher Pearson looks like it's on a collision course with Apple over App Store subscriptions.

Apple is now insisting publishers offer subscriptions in-app with 30% going to Apple. But this isn't Pearson's main worry. It's angry because Apple won't share the subscription data - the details of the customers who've signed up. Pearson Chief Executive Marjorie Scardino issued a thinly-veiled threat:
"It is unclear how their proposal is going to work, we are still talking to them," said Scardino. "The important thing to remember is there are many, many tablets coming out and multiple devices ... [from] Kindle to mobiles. If indeed Apple are not happy to give us customer data then maybe we will get it somewhere else."
The FT relies heavily on subscription digital distribution.  Last year, 900,000 FT apps were downloaded onto mobile devices.
