Geohot Asks For Help In Jailbreak Fight Against Sony (Update: Donations Are Now Closed)

Media, I need your help. This is the first time I have ever asked. Please, if you support this cause, help me out and spread the word.
I want, by the time this goes to trial, to have Sony facing some of the hardest hitting lawyers in the business.

Jailbreaker, George Hotz, is asking for help in his legal battle with Sony, after he jailbroke the PlayStation 3 games console.

Sony is suing the 21-year-old, aka Geohot, on eight counts, including copyright infringement and computer fraud.

The company has already won a temporary restraining order which forbids him from disributing the jailbreak or "encouraging others to jailbreak".

Geohot hit the headlines when he became the first person to unlock the iPhone soon after its launch in 2008. Since then he's developed and made available several iPhone jailbreak and unlock solutions, including blackra1n and limera1n. He's never charged for the hacks, even though others have used his work to make money.

As you can see above, he's now posted an appeal on his blog for donations to help his legal fight against Sony.

Update: Geohot has now closed donations. It isn't known how much the appeal raised, but he has said he's "overwhelmed" by the response.
