Steve Jobs has apparently made it clear that Apple's new 30% subscription charge for in-app subscriptions is only for newspapers and magazines..
Developers were worried it will also apply to other in-app purchases like games.
A developer emailed the Apple CEO, who's currently on sick leave, and got this reply:
The reply seems to be clear: the new subscription service does not apply to apps that offer in-app "Software as a Service" ie games and the like.We created subscriptions for publishing apps, not SaaS apps.Sent from my iPhone
This may help game developers, but newspaper and magazine publishers are still fighting the new system. They say they can't afford Apple's 30% take.
