Google Tells Phone Makers Not To Tinker With Android

It's reported Google has warned smartphone manufacturers not to tinker with its Android operating system.

Google, it seems, wants to keep Android pure from tweaks imposed on it by manufacturers and networks.

Bloomberg says Google has warned "partners" that they'll now have to get their plans for changes approved before getting access to the latest Android updates.

When Android was first released in 2008, Google described it as "open source" - manufacturers who use it on their devices don't pay royalties and many understood they could tinker with the software to customise it. But it appears from now on Google will try to keep closer control over Android, which now tops the smartphone market with a 31% share.
