With the iPad 2 still in short supply in 26 launch countries, figures just released show a thriving market for the device on eBay.
The company says the average price on its US site for the basic 16GB WiFi-only iPad 2 is $697 compared with a retail price of $499.
The top-of-the-range 64GB WiFi and 3G model is attracting an average mark up premium of $406.
The figures are only for the two weeks after the iPad 2 launch in the US when a total of nearly 12,000 devices were sold on the auction website.
Interestingly, 65% of sales remained in the US, showing people are willing to pay premiums just to get the iPad 2 quickly. Top of the export countries were Canada, Russia, Hong Kong, Japan and the UK.
