Lining Up For iPad 2 International Launch

The world has started buying the iPad 2, which goes on sale Friday at 5pm local time in 25 countries, including the UK.

First to get the device was Australia and New Zealand where people had queued for hours. But stocks are low and stores sold out in a few hours.

The photo above is from the Apple Store in Sydney, Australia, where the iPad 2 went on sale at 5pm local time, 6am GMT.

And on the right is the Apple Store in Regent Street, London, where the first person in the queue was in place at 7.30am  Thursday - a full 33 hours before buying will begin. Jewels Lewis says he's well prepared for the wait:
"I've got a blanket, my iPhone and some books and magazines to read.  Friends and family will be bringing me supplies and keeping me company".
Jewels was fourth in the queue in Regent Street when the first-generation iPad was released last  year.

On-line ordering was switched on by Apple at 1am local time Friday with orders facing a 2-3 week delay in shipping. .

When the iPad 2 was launched in the US on March 11, it sold out within hours and it's thought stocks are low for the international launch as well.
