Samsung Fights Back With Thinner-Than-iPad Tablet

Samsung has announced its new Galaxy Tab 10.1 slate computer will be launched on June 8. And it'll take on the iPad 2 head-to-head.

It has a slightly bigger screen than the iPad 2's 9.7-inches and it'll be thinner and lighter than its competitor. The tab is 8.6mm thick compared with the 8.8-mm iPad 2. And the samsung will weigh in at 595g against the iPad's 601g. Samsung has announced pricing, which matches the iPad 2 exactly.

The Korean company will also be releasing a smaller 8.9-inch tablet, but that won't be out until later in the summer.

Both devices will run the Android Honeycomb operating system.
