Android Strides Head Of Apple In Smartphone Market-Share

Google's Android operating system has taken a big lead over Apple's iOS in the US smartphone market, according to figures from analysts Nielsen.

It gives Android a 37% share of the market, with Apple second on 27%.

It's a big gain for Google: Nielsen's last survey in October put Apple in the lead at 27.9% and Blackberry second with 27.4%.  Blackberry's lost share has gone straight to Android, along with losses from Windows and Symbian.

The figures are not surprising.  Other surveys have shown similar results.  The Android operating system is used on dozens of smartphones from several manufacturers.  Apple's iOS is only on the iPhone.
