Froyo Boost For Nook eBook Reader

Barnes and Noble's Nook eBook reader is getting a major software update.

It brings Android 2.2 Froyo operating system to the colour device, as well as Flash 10.1 and an app store.

The Nook also includes an email app and is now, in effect, a 7-inch tablet computer and not just a bookreader. And at $249 seems pretty good value.

It's screen isn't as good for book-reading as the Kindle's e-ink display, but it does a lot more than the Amazon device.

The Nook can't access Android's Marketplace app store, but the update includes its own, where you'll find 125 apps including some favourites like Angry Birds and Facebook.

The software update is available now as a download and will soon be pushed over-the-air to devices.
