Apple Defends Developers After Legal Threats From Lodsys "Patent Troll"

Apple has jumped to the defence of App Store developers who've been threated with legal action over alleged patent infringement.

The US company Lodsys has contacted several developers demanding payment for the use of "in-app purchases", becaue it claims to hold the patent.

The Guardian reports that the head lawyer in Apple's legal department, Bruce Sewell, has written to the boss of Lodsys, Mark Small, saying it is "fully prepared to defend Apple's license rights".

The letter says there is "no basis" for Lodsys' infringement allegations.
