Deal Done: "Twitter Buys TweetDeck For £25-Million"

It's understood the long-awaited deal has been done: Twitter has bought the UK TweetDeck company for $40-million (£25-million). A formal announcement is expected on Wednesday.

TweetDeck produces applications for Windows, Mac, iOS and Android that make managing your Twitter feed much easier, which isn't hard to image if you've used the very basic and sometimes confusing Twitter website. TweetDeck will now become the official Twitter multi-platform application.

TweetDeck was launched by computer programmer 36-year-old Iain Dodsworth in 2008 because he kept missing messages from Twitter friends.

It was an instant hit and since then investors have pumped $3.5-million dollars into the company, which doesn't carry ads, doesn't charge for the service and doesn't make any money.

TweetDeck employs 15 people and is based at Old Street roundabout in East London - dubbed Silicon Roundabout with the Government offering incentives for high-tech companies to set up there.
