How Microsoft Makes Money Out Of Android



Google's Android smartphone operating system is proving to be a big money-spinner for Microsoft, bring in more than its own rival Windows Phone 7 OS.

Citi analyst Walter Pritchard says Microsoft gets $5 for every HTC phone running Android because of an intellectual patent settlement between the two companies. It's estimated HTC hands over $150-million a year.

Pritchard says Microsoft is suing other Android phone manufacturers and is looking for $7.50-$12.50 per device.
