Apple is to release an update to Mac OS X to combat the Mac Defender malware that's continuing to spread.
It's being seen as the first major threat to Mac security.
It can download automatically and will direct users to bogus websites offering virus removal in exchange for credit card details.
Apple has posted a special support web page "How to avoid or remove Mac Defender".
It says the operating system update with detect and remove the malware automatically.
