Twitter Buys TweetDeck - Official

It's been confirmed that Twitter has bought UK company TweetDeck, as we reported yesterday.

No price has been released, but it's thought to be £25-million/$40-million.  Not bad for a company set up only three years ago.

TweetDeck makes Twitter applications for Windows, Mac, iOS and Android, but there's no word yet just how the acquisition may affect future development.

TweetDeck boss, Iain Dodsworth, writing in the company blog,Twitter says changes can't be ruled out:
“Change may well be inevitable, but we remain the same team, staying in London, with the same focus and products, and now with the support and resources to allow us to grow and take on even bigger challenges."
There are fears among other developers that with its new stable of apps, Twitter may try to prevent other apps from accessing the Twitter feed.  But Twitter CEO Dick Costello says:
“TweetDeck is a great example of a third-party developer that designed tools for the incredibly important audience of Twitter power-users and, in turn, created value for the network as a whole.”
Here's the TweetDeck blog post.
