Nokia Unveils New Smartphone With Redundant Softeware

Sometimes Nokia defies logic. It's just announced a brand new smartphone - the first to run its own MeeGo operating system.

It's not only the first...the N9 will probably be the last as well. Nokia has already said it's cutting support for the MeeGo project which it only started last year. At one time, MeeGo was going to be Nokia's future for smartphones and tablets.

Now, of course, it's been thrown out in favour of Nokia's alliance with Microsoft and its Windows Phone 7 operating system, which will ship on Nokia phones at the end of the year.

So...fancy buying a smartphone running an OS that's got no support? Probably not. There's no release date yet anyway. Perhaps the N9 will just quietly disappear.
