Verizon Scraps Unlimited Data Plans

US mobile network, Verizon, has confirmed it's scrapping its $29.99 unlimited data plan.

Instead, it will introduce a three-tier system for new customers starting on July 7. It hasn't confirmed what the new plans are, but it's reported they'll be $10 for 75MB a month, $30 for 2GB, $50 for 5GB and $80 for 10GB. Existing customers will stay on unlimited until they want a new handset and sign a new contract.

The other iPhone network in the US, AT&T got rid of its unlimited plan last year.

Realistically, 75MB isn't enough for a month and most customer will go for the $30 option. And it means Verizon customers wanting to upgrade to the new iPhone 5 - reported to be being launched around September time - will have to forgo unlimited data to get it or stick with their existing handset.
