Amazon Tablet Price "To Undercut Rivals"

The New York Post is reporting that the highly-anticipated Amazon tablet will hugely undercut rivals on price.

The newspaper quotes sources saying it could be marketed at "hundreds of dollars" less than, say, the iPad or high-end Android devices.

Amazon is expected to launch the new device in September or October and it wouldn't be surprising if it took a price hit.  It's estimated Amazon's Kindle bookreader costs the company about $30 more per unit than their store price.

Amazon absorbs the loss because it more than makes up for it with profits on eBook sales. It will no doubt be planning the same for the tablet as well as profits from the sale of apps.
