It seems Google is getting a head-start in the race to dominate mobile phone swipe-and-pay.
It's launched Google Wallet in the US. The Near Field Communication system has been tested in small areas and has now gone national.
It means if you have a Google Wallet enabled Android smartphone, you can pay for goods and services by swiping the device over a terminal.
At the moment, the only Android phone that can do this is the Nexus S on Sprint, but expect all Android smartphones to pack it from now on.
You'll also have to set up either a Citi Mastercard or Google Pre-Pay account.
