HTC Might Buy webOS From HP

It's reported that mobile handset manufacturer HTC is considering buying the much-praised webOS smartphone operating system from HP.

The move would put Taiwan-based HTC directly against Apple and Android.

HP suddenly pulled the plug on its webOS smartphones and tablet last month following bad sales figures. The devices were criticised for poor hardware, but the operating system was acknowledged as good. HP bought the OS from Palm.

Focus Taiwan says HTC has confirmed it's looking to acquire an operating system and has named webOS as a candidate. At the moment, most HTC smartphones run Google's Android OS.
