Orange And T-Mobile Launch Seamless Network Roaming - 3G Included

Last year, UK networks Orange and T-Mobile merged into the Everything Everywhere parent group. Soon afterwards, they started sharing their networks for voice calls.

Now, that sharing is taking a step up. They're rolling out seamless sharing. You won't be asked if you want to lop onto the other network. It'll just happen.

And before, if you were an Orange customer and both networks were available, you'd stick with an Orange signal even if it wasn't the strongest. Now, you'll automatically latch onto the strongest signal.

But the big change is 3G sharing. Before, it was limited to voice calls. Now your phone will connect to the strongest signal for fast 3G data as well.

Unlike when the sharing system was first introduced, there's no signing up to do. It'll just happen.

The new sharing system will be switched on area by area.

  • Orange customers roaming on T-Mobile will see the network name “Orange T-Mobile”
  • T-Mobile customers roaming on Orange will see the network name “T-Mobile Orange”
And if you're a customer of Virgin, which uses the T-Mobile network, you'll be switched on this month for 2G sharing.

  • Virgin: Connected to a T-Mobile signal (Virgin with a capital V)
  • virgin: Connected to an Orange signal (2G only so slow downloads, virgin with a small v)
