Microsoft "Plans Two Major Updates For Windows Phone OS In 2012"

Microsoft is planning two major updates to its Windows Phone operating system during 2012, according to a leaked company roadmap obtained by WMPoweruser website.

The WP Mango update was rolled out late this year to all smartphones running the OS.

The leaked roadmap says the next update, Tango, should be released in Q2, 2012, and will make the operating system work on lower-priced handsets.

A bigger update, Apollo, is apparently scheduled for Q4 and will be tied in with "competitive smartphones" and "business" use. This is taken to mean compatibility with smartphones running dual-core processors. Microsoft will be wanting to get this update out as early as possible to compete with other dual-core processor phones, like the iPhone and top-range Android devices.

The roadmap is dated October, 2011.
