Another Worker Falls To Death At Foxconn Plant In China

MICgadget is reporting that another worker has fallen to his death from a dormitory block at the giant Foxconn factory complex at Shenzhen in China, where Apple iPhones and iPads are manufactured. It follows major concerns over working conditions at the plant where there has been a spate of suicides. MICgadget says the latest death is an 18 year old man who'd been working at the factory for less than a month. Up to 500,000 people are employed at the Foxconn Shenzhen complex with the majority living on-site. Earlier this year, an independent investigation criticised working conditions, detailing long hours, and public humiliation for failure. Foxconn says it's changed things and introduced new measures, like counsellors and netting under dormitory blocks to prevent serious injuries from falls. Steve Jobs Pledges "MobileMe Will Get Better"

There's another email "apparently" from Steve Jobs floating around. This time, he's answering a question about MobileMe from a user who described it as "almost unusable". MobileMe is the Apple subscription service that lets you sync contacts, calendar and stuff across your desktop, laptop, iPhone or iPad. It also gives you storage space and push email. It costs a staggering £59/$99 a year. Staggering because Google offers much the same service for nothing. Real Evidence The iPad Is Clobbering Netbooks

DigiTimes in Taiwan is reporting that Asus is cutting its future shipping forcasts for its Eee PC netbooks - because of competition from Apple's iPad. It follows second-quarter sales figures lower than expected. The company's CEO Jerry Shen says sales fell short of expectations mainly due to competition from the iPad. He says Asus will continue in the notebook and netbook market, but will also take on apple with a new tablet device. (Source: DigiTimes )
