Untethered Jailbreak Released For iPhone 4S and iPad 2: Absinthe Is Now Live For Mac

It's finally out! An untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 running iOS 5 and iOS5.0.1.

It's been released on the Chronic Dev Team's GreenPois0n website.

At the moment it's Mac only, but the team promise a Windows version soon.

Here's a direct link to the Absinthe Mac download.

Credit goes to pod2g and the iPhone Dev Team and Cronic Dev Team for the hard work they've put in. It's the first time the teams have worked together so closely to produce a jailbreak.

Here's what to do:

  • First, disable Passcode Lock on your device if enabled.

  • Plug your iPhone 4S or iPad 2 into your PC and back up in iTunes (just in case).

  • Download Absinthe from the link above.

  • Open Absinthe and connect your device.

  • Click on "Jailbreak".

  • Absinthe may take a couple of minutes.

  • You'll now find an Absinthe icon in your iOS device.

  • Tap on it and let Absinthe do its jailbreaking.

  • After it's finished, your device will reboot and you'll see the Cydia store icon.
Update: If you get a database connection error after tapping the Absinthe icon on your iPhone 4S or iPad 2, go to Settings > General > Network > VPN and turn VPN on. That's really all the Absinthe icon does. If you get an error message, dismiss it. Wait for a bit, your device will reboot and you should find Cydia on your device.

And here's a jailbreaking video tutorial from iClarified:

Just a reminder...this is an early release, so there may be bugs. I've used it and it worked flawlessly.
