The worldwide spread of patent litigation throughout the smartphone and tablet world is threatening to spread to social media.
The New York Times reports that Yahoo is demanding patent licensing fees from Facebook. Kind of Old World takes on New World.
It's reported Yahoo's claims include the systems used in Facebook's ads, privacy controls, news feed and messaging services.
It's understood Yahoo could be making demands on up to 20 patents.
A Facebook spokesman said: "Yahoo contacted us at the same time they called the New York Times and so we haven't had the opportunity to fully evaluate their claims."If it ends up in Yahoo suing Facebook, it will be the first major legal battle between social media giants.
