The days of fairly-ad-free Twitter feeds on iPhones are about to end as the social networking giant ramps up revenue.
The company has announced that "Promoted Tweets" will start appearing on iOS and Android phones. They're already scattered around timelines in the main website version of Twitter.
Initially, you'll only get promoted tweets if you're following the promoter. But that's only initially. Eventually, they'll appear in your timeline whether you're following the advertiser or not.
Twitter promises they won't be intrusive. Mmmmm. For example, the company says they'll appear some way down your timeline and not at the top. And you'll be able to swipe them to dismiss them, but not cancel them forever.
Ah well. It was good while it lasted.
