Apple Offers Refunds To New iPad Owners In Australia Over "Misleading" 4G Ads

Apple is offering refunds to owners of the new iPad in Australia, after being accused of "misleading" customers by advertising and labelling the product as 4G when it can't connect to any 4G network in the country.

In fact, the only 4G networks the new iPad is compatible with are AT&T in the US and Bell, Rogers and Telus in Canada. Other 4G networks worldwide work on difference frequencies.

The Australian Consumer and Competition Commission watchdog too Apple to Federal Court for describing the new iPad as 4G compatible in advertising and packaging.

Apple says it will email customers in Australia offering a refund. It refused to change labelling on the packaging, but says it will put "corrective notices" at points of sale.

The company also said it would contest the allegations at a higher court.

It'll be interesting to see if other countries' consumer watchdog bodies take similar action.
