BBC iPlayer Blow For Windows Phone

A vital app for any self-respecting smartphone in the UK is the BBC iPlayer. There are versions for iPhone, Android and even Blackberry. But, it seems, it won't be coming anytime soon to Windows Phone, which will be a big blow to the gigantic effort Nokia is putting into flogging its Lumia series of devices.

Following reports that an iPlayer app is on its way to WP, Pocket-lint is now quoting a BBC spokesperson saying it isn't.
“BBC iPlayer is already on over 500 platforms and devices including Virgin Media, BT Vision, FreeSat, Freeview, Sony PlayStation, Nintendo Wii, and hundreds of mobile phones, tablets and Internet-connected TVs,” said the BBC spokesman.
“We are always looking at new and existing platforms to bring BBC iPlayer to, but have no plans to launch a BBC iPlayer native app in Windows Phone Marketplace in the immediate future.”
One of the major criticisms of Windows Phone is a lack of apps, even though most of the major ones are now covered and the number is growing daily. But a snub from the BBC's catch-up TV and radio service is a major setback - in the UK anyway.
