iPhone 5: "Longer Screen And Metal Backplate"

9to5Mac has got hold of high-res photos of what it claims to be the casing for the planned new iPhone 5, expected to go on sale in the Autumn.

The photo above shows a largely-metal backplate with only the very top and bottom featuring the device's characteristic black or white trim.

It seems the devices will still have an antenna band around the sides and, according to the photo below of the phone's front casing, the touchscreen will be the same width as the iPhone 4S but a little longer.

The front-facing camera moves to above the earpiece, there's a new mini cable connector  and the earphone jack moves from the top to the bottom of the phone.

To be honest, the iPhone 5 doesn't seem drastically different from its predecessor, which, in turn, wasn't that different from the iPhone 4.

If the photos are genuine, there's no wider screen, no unibody casing and there's still a physical home button.

Of course, the insides will no doubt be souped up with a faster processor and perhaps more RAM and even a better-quality camera.

But, if you're wanting to think different.......
