Google Chrome Web Browser Shoots To Top Of iOS Charts

They may be arch rivals, but they need each other. Google has released an iOS version of its hugely popular Chrome web browser.

It's a free app download for iPhone and iPad in the Apple App Store.

The design of the iOS browser is very similar to its desktop version and, if you're signed in to your Google account, all versions will sync giving you exact copies of your bookmarks, settings, old search results and even open tabs. This is useful for auto-complete of website addresses you've already used.

Chrome also has voice search.

All the features work well and it makes a great change from Safari.

The good thing about the desktop version of Chrome is its speed...it's noticeably faster than other browsers. That's not the case with the iOS version, because it's had to be written using the same base code as Apple's own Safari iOS browser. But at least it's as fast as Safari.

Update: Already the Google Chrome app is No. 1 in the App Store free apps chart.
