Apollo Plus: Microsoft "to release Windows Phone 8 update in Q1 2013"

It's reported Microsoft will release the first update for the new Windows Phone 8 operating system in Q1 next year.

The Verge says the update will be called Apollo Plus and will have new features as well as fixes.

Microsoft has admitted it ran out of time to include a notification centre in WP8, so that seems a likely inclusion, as does VPN, which would allow devices to be used on corporate work systems.

It's thought there could also be an option to keep WiFi turned on. At the moment it switches off when the phone goes into standby to save battery power but users complain it means the device uses costly mobile data networks to sync apps.

The Verge says Microsoft will detail the update at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February.
