Bloomberg is reporting that HTC has scrapped plans for a large-screen device running the new Windows Phone 8 operating system.
Quoting a "person familiar with the project", it says the plans have been dropped because WP8 doesn't support high enough resolution for a device with a screen of more than about 5-inches.
WP8 will support up to 720 horizontal lines on a screen, while Android supports 1,080.
Larger screen phones have proved popular recently as shown by Samsung's Galaxy Note devices with screens of 5.5-inches and running Android.
