It looks like you can stop checking for the WP7.8 update...for a few weeks, anyway.
It was reported yesterday that users of the WP7 Nokia Lumia 800 were being notified of the long-awaited update and had successfully downloaded it onto their devices, bringing some of the features of the new WP8 operating system.
But it seems the release was only for a select few...in fact, people still using pre-production phones. That means journalists and developers, so the news spread pretty quickly.
It's now being reported that the WP7.8 update will be released on schedule in early 2013, as already announced by Microsoft.
Update: It seems Nokia has now confirmed that the 7.8 release yesterday was for pre-production devices only:
"We react to this, because otherwise people will disappointed and sit waiting for the update," said spokeswoman Stella Jansen.
