Microsoft "to release Switch to Windows Phone app to lure Android users"

It's reported that Microsoft is about to release an Android app to make switching to Windows Phone easier.

NetworkWorld says the app will be available in the Android app store next week.

It will identify what apps Android owners are using and provide a list of identical - or near-identical - apps in the Windows Phone Store.

One of Microsoft's major battles is persuading people that the Windows Phone Store is still a poor alternative to Android and Apple.

The trouble is...well, the Windows Phone Store is still a poor relation.

Facebook is a good example. There is an official Facebook app for WP, but it's developed by Microsoft, not Facebook, and its Apple and Android rivals are streets ahead.

And that not to mention Flipboard - no sign of it for WP - or any official BBC apps, although the Beeb has promised an iPlayer app "soon".

But the WP Store is catching up and with a bit of help most Apple and Android users can find viable alternatives with Windows Phone.
