BBC iPlayer app finally arrives on Windows Phone 8

The BBC is finally acknowledging Windows Phone as a viable smartphone operating system.

At last.

The Beeb has released its first WP app - BBC iPlayer.

In the past, the corporation has made feeble excuses about difficulties over platform compatibilities and other crap.

The iPlayer app is only for WP8 - no support for older WP7 devices - and it's really just a skin that takes users to the iPlayer mobile website with its catch-up service of TV and radio shows.

But, hey, it's a start.

It works pretty well, but it's fairly basic compared to the BBC iPlayer apps for iOS and Android. There's no downloading of programmes for watching later, for example.

You never know...the BBC may even get its act together and release a simple news app - especially after forcing the excellent third-party app BBC News Mobile to shut up shop.
