One of the best things Nokia has done to Lumia smartphones is add the Glance Screen.
OK...at the moment it doesn't do a great deal: wave your hand over your sleeping phone and it will show you the time, charging status, ring status and a blurry photo of your choice.
But the company's next Lumia firmware update - Black - will add improvements. They include more notifications - missed calls, texts, alarm etc - and a pedometer.
Yup...set it going and it will count your steps and work out how far you've walked. Or run. Or not.
Black is due to be released in "a few weeks" and will be bundled with Microsoft's operating system update, WP8 Update 3 (formerly known as GDR3). Then, sometime around next March/April (very -ish) will come Microsoft's next planned major OS update, WP 8.1, which will include the long-awaited Notification Centre among other new features.
Things are starting to move on apace in the Windows Phone world.
