Google dumps Motorola for Samsung

Together they can rule the world.

Unofficially, Google has done a deal with Samsung. Google will give Nexus production to the South Koreans and in return Samsung will stop tinkering around with the Android operating system and bring Google apps to more people.

Samsung is already the world's biggest smartphone manufacturer and, with Google's help, looks set to get bigger.

So now Google has no more need of Motorola, despite producing two of the best handsets of the past year - the Moto X and Moto G.

But, hey, it can now devote its time to Samsung.

So, Motorola handset division is sold off to Chinese giant Lenovo to give it a badly-needed foothold in the US smartphone market.

Bring on the Samsung Nexus and watch out Windows Phone. And perhaps Apple as well.
